Born prematurely at 31 weeks gestation, on a life-support machine for a week and in Intensive Care for a further three, I acquired significant and life-long brain damage that would totally shape the way I would see and experience the world around me.
My mobility, movement, fine motor control, sensory perception and sensation are all affected, resulting in me having a truly unique perspective on even the most mundane aspects of life.

It is this unique perspective that inspires my work. I enjoy creating images that allow you to see the usual, the non-remarkable and the ordinary in unusual and striking ways; to see everything just that little bit differently, just like I do.
Although not always the main subject of my images, my disability always plays a pivotal role in my work. All my images are shot from my wheelchair, which often impacts the composition/viewpoint and I've also been known to use parts of my chair as an extension of my photographic equipment to produce a Disabled-friendly alternative to tripods!
Some of my work will be available for purchase as signed and numbered, limited edition, postcard-format prints in mid-2010. Should you wish to contact me about this, or anything else, please send your message to: email@clairephipps.com.
